Artists' Market

The Friends of RBG Melbourne intends to present a “pop-up” art sale in December 2023 which will allow sales of un-framed botanical and natural history artworks, prints, cards and other small botanical merchandise.

Dates:   Saturday 2 and Sunday 3, December 2023

Times:   10am – 4pm daily

Venue: Mueller Hall, Birdwood Ave, South Yarra

Conditions of Entry:

·        Artwork needs to be hand drawn/painted botanical and natural history subject matter (our preference is to exclude mammals) and no digitally generated work. May be unframed originals, prints or other related merchandise (cards, tea towels, bookmarks).

·        Artists need to be current members of the Friends.

·        First in best dressed. Space is limited to 30 trestle tables.

·        Costs:  $10 per table per day (large trestle with room for 2 artists if you want to work in pairs)
$15 if both days booked by same artist/pair

·        15% commission to the Friends of RBG Melbourne

·        All sales will be processed through a central payment system at a single exit point.

·        Artists will be invited to submit an image that can be used as a hero image in promotional and advertising material.

·        Artist must bring their work in on the Saturday (or Sunday) morning and take it home on the Saturday or Sunday evening. Work may be left in the hall overnight Saturday if they are doing both days. The hall will be open from 9 am to allow artists to set up before the public is admitted at 10 am.

·        Artists must be present to talk to customers and facilitate their own sales. Customers will get to “meet the artists” and merchandise cannot be left unattended.

·        A practising artist in residence program will occur through each day. If an artist wishes to participate in this, they must have arrangements in place for someone to attend their merchandise.

·        There will be volunteers roving on both days to provide an overlay of security, but we strongly advise artists do all they can to prevent losses (e.g. mount small prints/artworks onto A3 card to prevent slipping into carry bags).

·        If you would like to participate but feel you might like to share the table space with a “buddy” artist to help you manage costs and sales support while you have rest breaks BUT need help finding a partner – WE CAN HELP. Indicate your interest in our buddy matching service!
