How can you help?  Join the Friends and get involved

Who can volunteer?

  • Volunteers include people from all walks of life 
  • We welcome retirees, students, parents, and professionals 
  • The majority of our volunteering roles are currently for people aged 18 years and over

Ways You can Join in and Help

There are many opportunities for you to become more closely involved with the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. More than 150 of our members volunteer with us.

  •     Special Events and Botanical Art Exhibitions 

        - Volunteers will be needed to help at the reFraming Nature Exhibition - October 2017
  •    Catering at events
        - 
    Join our team as the Catering Organiser (download Information pdf right)
  •     Plant Sales 

        - Volunteers needed to help at the next Plant Sale October 2017

  •     Events program
        - Position currently available to help plan events

  •     Editing and Publishing with our Publications committee (both print and electronic)
        - Volunteers with computer and editing skills welcome

  •     Hands on growing with our Growing Friends 
        - Waiting list applies at the moment but put your name down 

  •     Hands on gardening with our Helping Hands and Plant Craft Cottage Gardening Groups
        - Vacancies available in these groups to work in the RBGV, Melbourne Gardens

  •     Use your office skills at Gate Lodge 
        - Volunteers with computer and office skills always welcome

  •     Join a craft group or help out at the Plant Craft Cottage - download information flyer (right)
        - Be a host at the Cottage during opening hours - join our fun roster

  •     Promotion of the Friends (including the website)
        - Position currently available for volunteer with marketing skills 

  •     Newsletter packing
        - Volunteers help once per quarter packing Botanic News for posting

How to get started?

  • The Friends welcome all offers of help  
  • If you would like to help email us at friends@rbgmelb.org.au or telephone our office at Gate Lodge on (03) 9650 6398, and ask to be put in touch with our Volunteers' Coordinator
  • Download and complete the form (below) and return to our office at friends@rbgmelb.org.au (or post to c/- Gate Lodge, 100 Birdwood Ave, Melbourne 3004)
  • Volunteers do need to be members of the Friends, so if you would like to volunteer and are not a member, it is easy to join us today
