How can you help?  Join the Friends and get involved

Who can volunteer?

  • Volunteers include people from all walks of life 
  • We welcome retirees, students, parents, and professionals 
  • The majority of our volunteering roles are currently for people aged 18 years and over

Ways You can Join in and Help

There are many opportunities for you to become more closely involved with the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. More than 150 of our members volunteer with us.

  •    Special Events and Botanical Art Exhibitions 

  •    Catering for and running events - Join our team who help run events
  •    The Events Committee is currently look for a Convenor to coordinate Events
  •     Plant Sales Help at the next Plant Sale in set up and sales - Autumn 2019
  •     Editing and Publishing with our Publications committee
        - Volunteers with computer and editing skills are welcome

  •     Hands on growing with our Growing Friends 
        - Waiting list applies at the moment

  •     Hands on gardening with our Helping Hands Groups
        - work in the RBGV, Melbourne Gardens 

  •     Use your office skills at Gate Lodge 
        - Volunteers with computer and office skills welcome - opening at the moment

  •     Join a craft group or help out at the Cottage - flyer (below)
        - Be a host during opening hours - join our fun roster

How to get started?

  • The Friends welcome all offers of help  
  • If you would like to help email us at friends@rbgmelb.org.au or telephone our office at Gate Lodge on (03) 9650 6398, and ask to be put in touch with our Volunteers' Coordinator
  • Download and complete the form (below) and return to our office at friends@rbgmelb.org.au (or post to c/- Gate Lodge, 100 Birdwood Ave, Melbourne 3004)
  • Volunteers do need to be members of the Friends, so if you would like to volunteer and are not a member, it is easy to join us today
