Join us on this festive tour of the Johnston Collection. The Collection is the legacy of William Robert Johnston (1911-1986) an antique dealer and collector of beautiful things.

The Christmas exhibition continues their collaborations with contemporary makers by inviting, supporting and encouraging them to create ‘new works based on old objects.’ This year, The Johnston Collection has commissioned various Melbourne-based artists and collectives to create and contribute to our annual Summer exhibition.

The Johnston Collection encourages challenges to traditional making, thinking and practice through contemporary responses to the Collection, along with more customary responses that reflect historical techniques, materials and making. This exhibition offers an ‘inspired’ interpretation of the Collection.

When we leave the Collection, we will walk past a number of beautiful historic houses and through the Fitzroy Gardens enjoying the cool shade of mature trees. We will finish the walk back near the Pullman Hotel.
