Travel Talk 1: Juan Grimm and Roberto Burle Marx in South America - Illustrated talk by Catherine Drew

Juan Grimm is a celebrated contemporary landscape architect who has worked on different projects throughout South America. His home is in Chile, which has challenging conditions for garden making not dissimilar to Australia. Roberto Burle Marx inspired Jaun Grimm. This world famous Brazilian garden designer was an artist who became passionate about Brazilian flora and introduced it for use in gardens. He is known for his strong paving designs, which stretch 4 kilometres along Copacabana beach and Flamingo Park nearby in Rio de Janiero.

Travel Talk 2: Madagascar. 'Baobabs, Lemurs and Chameleons' – Illustrated Talk by Lynsey Poore

Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world and as a result of the island's long isolation from neighbouring continents, it is home to an abundance of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Approximately 90% of all plant and animal species found in Madagascar are endemic including the lemurs. This distinctive ecology has led some ecologists to refer to Madagascar as the "eighth continent", and the island has been classified by Conservation International as a biodiversity hotspot.
